QECH Nursing Leadership welcomes NONM membership recruitment drive

The Chief Nursing Officer at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital QUECH, Lucy Chigwenembe has urged nurses and midwives in the country to pay up nurses union membership.

Chigwenembe made the remarks when the National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi NONM President Mrs Dorothy Ngoma and the South West Zone Chairperson Mr. Osman Assam paid a courtesy call to her office before conducting a membership sensitization and recruitment exercise at the facility.

“Let me appreciate you for paying us a visit at Queens, this is a clear demonstration that NONM is taking its union services to the nurses on the ground which is good. As a leader working with nurses here, I can confess that there are a lot of issues that require your attention including the issue of shortage of nurses which remain a challenge for us at this facility”, Chigwenembe said.

In reaction to Chigwenembe’s remarks Ngoma said: “We appreciate your support, as a union we know there are a lot of challenges that require concerted efforts for the betterment of the nursing and midwifery profession as well as patients care”.
During the membership sensitisation and recruitment exercise, over 30 nurses participated and 28 were recruited right away.
